How do auditions work?

There are two rounds of Pulse auditions. The first round is a google form that's meant to give you a chance to show your individual movement quality and personality. You will be asked to submit 3-4 videos: One of you dancing a short combo we will provide, one of you discussing your love of dance and why you are interested in joining Pulse, one answering a get-to-know-you question, and an optional video of any other past performance or improv you would like to show us. The second round is in-person callbacks! Callbacks aim to see how you pick up choreo and consist of learning and performing two combos; one contemporary and one hip hop/jazz funk.

What do we look for in dancers?

We are looking for passionate dancers who are fast learners, open to delving into new styles, have unique and high-level movement quality, and who love to dance. Prior experience is not necessary but would definitely be an advantage. We do our best to evaluate each candidate holistically.

How many spots are open?

We do not have an exact quota of how many new members we accept each semester, but rather evaluate and decide on each candidate individually. We usually accept 15-20 dancers every semester.

What should I wear to callbacks?

Wear whatever you feel comfortable dancing in! Be sure to bring a pair of sneakers for one of the combinations.

What happens if I don't make it?

Try again! We hold auditions every semester and love seeing people come back and try again. Some of our best alumni are dancers who had to audition a few times before getting in!
